I have a printer problem again in the line.One of our Windows based tester is using the wrong default printer,this printer is defective...So I reconfigure it and connect it to the right printer.

Next is a request for re-partitioning the HDD of one of our "new" tester,BTW it is also running in Windows.But the problem is that it is on production.Upon checking the tester I saw that the tester were not yet endorsed to us for our team's configuration (which included Renaming of the hostname to our format,installation of anti-virus etc...)

I had two new UNIX based tester to configure but it takes me only almost two hours or maybe almost an hour per tester.Nakz!"yabang"hehehe.I configure two testers using ULTRA5.Which is easy than configuring a tester using SPARC5.Because the documentation that the previous admin is only for ULTRA5.lolz.And what really made this easy is that the other previos admin made some scripts to make it easy.Thanks Sir.=D

An extra request is about the printer problem of two tester in that line.But I resolved it too,fast.

I had a printer problem request in one of our Windows based testers.There are no printer installed in the PC.Which I think someone had deleted because when we had it configured we also installed printer and how come they already have HP software installed in the sytem if we haven't put a printer there....

We also had our Quarterly Communication Meeting today.We met our new president,announcement of bonus,give aways etc...~but that would be a secret.hehehe~, new customers, etc...

Early in the morning I had a request for date/time synchronization of few UNIX based testers.The command?Of course I'll be glad to share it with you guys.Here's an example:

This will November 07, 7:30am.The first two digits are for the month,the next two digits are for the day in the month, then the next two digits is for the hour and the last two digits are for the minutes.Take note that we are using military time here.So here's another example:

date 10152045 ~> October 15, 10:45pm

Next is that the printing problem of other set of UNIX based tester.What I did is I just clean the print queues.But one of the reported tester has a worng default printer,the set default printer is defective...So I set its default printer to the right one.

Lastly,I had a restoration request.But my groupmate suggested that it's better that I teach the maint guy how to do it.So I did.But I learned that they will put the HDD to a different CPU,Which has a big possibility that they will encounter blue screen.Since the divers installed in the HDD(from image back-up) is not the exact drivers for the new CPU...

I assess the IOS initialixation problem in one of our Windows based tester. I do some research about IOS in CISCO it stands for Internetwork Operating System,which is out in our case since it is not about network.From another source it say that it is about a program.According to the maint guy the error encountered is from the hardware.They conclude that it was a defective motherboard.But the tester is also one of the oldest tester in our company so the hardware are hard to find.OS used in this PC is Windows 95.

I don't have enough task for today but to continue researching for my project which is the NT Disk Expansion,that I think it's not applicable in our company.

In the afternoon there's areport regarding the slow test program loading.First suspect is the network,since we are experiencing network problems a few weeks or months now...They tried to load the test program locally but the loading is still not the usual tine of loading.But according to my groupmate who happens to be in the other plan for some reasons, user computer and tester computer is communicating through network.BTW,this platform is using two CPUs the user computer and the tester computer...

Today I am supposed to be on training,but my "boss" never allowed me.=(

Anyway, today I check the connection problem regarding the one of the oldest tester here...The problem is the PE cannot connect from her PC.

I also did some assessment or checking of one of our Windows based tester.They are requesting for a software installation.But this is an application software/program which is suppose to be a task for the PE since they have their training about their application.But just to help and close the issue I did,actually as I was to install it the maint/technician guy told me that he already did the re-installation,but they are still encountering the error...

We also helped our groupmate to restore or get the files that the PE needs.This were the files overwritten when one of our wafer handler/tester crashed last week.We are using a software for it.

I also logged a case ID to our vendor/support for the disk failing of one of the server of our "dedicated" customer.

I had 2 printing problem today and they are both using an UNIX based testers...Actually they are 3 testers but the PE who requested/reported the problem made only one resquest/report for two testers.I onle cleared the print queues of the two testers.In the last printing problem I only delete a certain file in their local directory which affects the run of their script for printing the summary.I think that files has something to do wth the script or a part of simulating the script.I can't explain it further since i'm not the owner/I 'm not the one who created the script.

Next just check/verify for the service tag of the Dell EMC2 of own by the customer.

Lastly,I need to re-restore from image back-up one of our wafer tester.Since the original HDD will be with my "boss" and he will try to recover the file in it before restoring to it.Some background,a maint guy ask help from our group,the HDD is corrupted,actually it was not the problem is that the system32 folder was deleted.(HUH???)We just don't know if its intetionally or just an accident.(Remember when you delete a file in Window there is still a prompt asking you if your sure to delete the file....) my group mate asked the maint if there are no files needed in the HDD the maint guy answered none So he proceeds with the restoration.After a few hour,here comes the PE asking for the files saved in the HDD...tsk tsk

I assess the looping booting problem of the tester computer of one of our UNIX based tester.The problem with this one is that there ain't no monitor for the tester computer and you don't know if you execute a shutdown command where it will run/execute,in the tester computer or user computer.The user computer is doing fine...

I also check the serial no of the Dell EMC2 owned by one of our customer for their asset audit.There was a several serial numbers at the back and i'm confused which one is the right one so I emailed all of the serial numbers I got to our customer.

Anyway,had work to do...

We had an asset audit for one of our customer having their own servers...Got Action Item for this.

Had a netowrk configuration of one of our upgraded tester.Not only network configuration but our group's configuration which includes the installation of different softwares neede like the anti virus and VNC (for remote access).The PE also needs to have a CD-rom,since the tester doesn't have and he need it for the driver of the card installation.What I did is share the CD-rom of the PC next to the upgraded tester.

I also have a image restoration of a handler(?).

I asses the data retrieval of one of our"dedicated" customer.According to the PE the directory is common,which means it is only mounted,so what they see in the directory is also what's in the server.So the files they are looking for are not in the server.And unfortunately we are having problem wih our tape drive...

I continue the printer reconfiguration.The network printer is not on line the port it uses is not activated and there is no available active port near the printer so I waited for our network guy to activate the port..And After that configure the testers...

I continue the troubleshooting the errors encountered in the new UNIX based tester.One tester experienced bus error which I resolve by changing the owner/gruop of one directory.The other tester experience an auto reboot of their application,which was handled by our senior.

Today is the first day of the month and first day of the work week...

I finished the liquidation process of our training that was held lamost a year ago.

Coordinated the printer connection request of one of our production supervisor.But the problem is that the PC is not under our responsibility.

And lastly,this stole almost all of my time,continue the configuration of the new UNIX based tester.It took me long because the documentation of the previous admin is for Ultra5 and the one I configured is using Sparc5.I finished the configuration and let the technician/maint guy run their test program/application.

I don't want to make the story long,'cos This one makes me sick!lolz.I need to configure a UNIX based tester that has no OS installed.What we did is disk to disk copy,using the srcipt made by one of our senior.But I was not successful.And I think the script had a problem.

I checked the reported printer problem again.This is not the printer problem yesterday.But as I check it,I see no problem with the printer.IP Address and hostname are correct.

I endorsed the HDD I restored to the production but My contact person wasn't there.Good thing there is his groupmate so he gave the tester (we had an allocation fot this).But I encountered problem."Disk read error" I tried to change the pin settings of the hard disk but it doesn't boot up properly.I just re-restored the image in the HDD and will try if it will works..Hopefully it will...Just waiting for the go signal from my contact person.I more problem is the activation of Windows installed in the HDD they are using.The HDD was from the FSE,we use it as a containment o just not to have a down time.We do not have internet connection in the production line and that's a problem.

I had a problem regarding the printer that continuosly printing unwanted print outs.We traced where the print out are from,which testers.The tester is running in LINUX Redhat.I need to know the commands for this or where to remove the print queues.To make the story short,after browing of reading manuals from the tester (man [topic] ) I got it and according to the the oprator the printer is now okay.But Ias I was check or doing the configuration for a new tester the prpoduction supervisor approach me and told that one tester can not print again.I told her that I'll just check that later on 'cos I still have the configuration thing.After a few minutes here she is again saying that the whole line cannot print (4 testers)I told her to check one of our senior for a fast resolution of the problem since I am still with the configuration activity.After a few more minutes or hours I am still the one to check it.To make the story short again what does the tester need is just a reboot.=(

I check the reported tester that according to the report is having a login and hang up problem.But when I checked it accrding to the maint guy it is okay and back to normal.

Next I set a default printer in a UNIX based tester.Since the tester's default printer is not working any more.

First,I continue the network configuration of one of our upgraded tester.And there's a more request have a CD shared to the tester so that they can install software that they need.

I had an assessment regarding the hang-up problem of another Windows based tester.The maint guy wants us to install from the scratch,from OS to MS Office to their application program etc.That would take for about a day to finish.But I gave them an option to use our image back up to restore.So that's what we did.

I continue processing our liquidation problem at our finance department.This is regarding our training last Dec.2006.Yeah you heard me right,Dec. 2006.I already talked to their finace staff and she told me that she will call me once he has the invoice and O.R. that we need and that she will fax to us.

Next I assess the inquiry regarding the script created by one of our CIM staff.He said that the scripts runs using manual,but not in cron.so I check.Scripts are not our responsibility.as our director said.hehehe

Lastly, I had a network configuration request.This one is funny.I was troubleshooting the PC 'cos the LAN card's LED doesn't light up.My first assessment is that the port is not activated.so I tried a lot of ports I even tried the one port used by another tester,which,thank God,does not have production.And I still encounter the problem.To cut the story short the reason why it doesn't light is because I was troubleshooting the wrong CPU.DAMN!I finish the activity for less than 30mins.But I still have some things to do with that PC.Renaming its hostname and joining it to our domain.Both activities needs a system reboot.I can not do it 'coz there is application running/ope in the system and i don't know if its fine to close it or not.They did not calibrate me regarding that application.

I had a datalog request.This was handled by our "boss" and then he pass it to me,just to get the files and forward it to the PE/requestor. Tsk tsk

Next I have a new testers for configuration,those are running in UNIX.But I haven't seen the testers.What I saw is the new windows based tester.So I was not done with it.But I asked/emailed the requestor where is the location of the testers.

The last two items are not line issues,number one,gemba.Gemba is a Japanese term meaning "the place where the truth can be found." Others may call it "the value proposition."So in short cleaning.lolz.lastly need to process the liquidation of our training which was held last Dec.2006.My co- group mate is having problem with getting his back pay because of this and I will also encounter this when I will resign.hehehe

I had a boot up problem again in one of our UNIX based tester.All I did is to run fsck -y to the system.BTW,fsck means File System ChecK or File System Consistency checK,in Windows it is check disk.fsck is a tool for checking the consistency of a File system in the UNIX system.

I also had a request on network configuration,but all I did is to connect the Windows based tester's PC to a network printer.

Today is a one tiring day.Why?Cos I finish processing the non-returnable gatepass for our vendor's items that are used during the server problem.I need to go to the other plant to let the shipping personnel sign n it.It is probably almost a kilometer or more of walk.Then after I finish the process I am just waiting for the person to pick it up.He's earlier than the expected time of arrival.But here's the problem the items inside the boxes are not the items that has the serial number that the box indicated,the items are for defective return.DAMN!I walk long then that's it.After some conversation with some security officers I needed to re-process the gatepass this time the serial no of the defective returns should be written there.So I walk again,going here,there here again.hay...And finally,the pull out went successful.This might be the reason why I kept thinking of the pull out last night,seriously it was true.It always comes into my mind.

The pull out happens in the afternoon,in morning one of our tester using Solaris 4.1 had encountered boot up problem.According to report they experience hang up that's why they reboot the system and that's when they experience the problem.It can not go on with its initialization
So I Stop A the system and boot it again (ok boot) and there i saw the problem.I boot from their disk (ok boot disk1) and it is asking for a manual fsck so i did (fsck -y) I thought The file system is corrupted or the HDD already failed because it shows the following sequence,repeatedly

According to my groupmate the HDD failed.But when I go back to the machine it is now asking for a login>I ask a maintenance guy to log it and it was successful and according to him that is now okey.But the system shows a sign that the HDD might be failed in a later time

Almost the whole day I was in the production line to set-up a network printer.Informations are already configured at the LAN card of the printer.BTW,we lend this printer to one of our "dedicated customer" which they should have their own printer,3 printers actually.Going back,I should not be having problem in setting this up since the network guy (the one who activate the ports) told me I mean us (with the production supervisor) that the port near the printer is already activated.I only need to connect the printer to network and configure the client that will use the network printer.I tried two LAN card but both doesn't work.What I did is try to use another LAN cable,but still doesn't work.I transfer port and whuwala!It works.The printer is now online.DAMN!that network guy is a lier,the port was not activated as what he told us.I wasted hours troubleshooting it and researching what would be the cause and it was only the damn port that was not activated.

Next,I need to configure 6 windows based testers to use the network printer I set up.And It was successful.

As I was doing my thing on the printer,a Department Manager approached me to ask some things,like the drive shared which is prohibited and I calibrate him about it and why it is prohibited.After the conversation ,I had an A.I.We will have a audit on the tester regarding that matter.On our group we will audit the file/folder/drive sharing.

We had a meeting with ICS.They are our IT corporate group.The meeting was about the server upgrade that we will be having soon.Attendees in the meeting are 3 persons from our group and 3 persons from their group.(bwahahaha,I know you thought I'm going to mention names.hehehe). We gave a line tour for one of the ICS staff.We only had a chance to tour him in Level 1.This is actually not included in the meeting agenda,he just request to have a slight line tour for him.

I also have one line problem today,this is about the sharing of one of the folder of a windows based tester.Actually this is prohibited,but as per conversation he needs it for the debugging of their program and after that the sharing will be disabled.Had encountered problem he,but I resolved it after.Just needed to start the net logon service.

I don' have much of production line issues,but a lot of task from our "boss".

First task is to send the quotation for our tape drive to the IT staff(?) of one of our "special" customer.The quotations are from our vendor and our purchasing staff.I have a slight problem here.The file that our vendor send us is in .DAT format,which can no t be open and when it open using notepad it is not readable.Thankfully there is uncle google to help.hehehe.I find this website that converts that said file format into PDF format.The site is:

Next is to send the research regarding the visibility VS DSL rates.This is according to our "boss" is for our group's off hours support.Last Task from our boss is to send him updates on projects and Others.

We had a visitor,this is a "third party" company.They will fix our SBU,Solstice Back-up Unit.Which was wreck during those time we are having problem with our server.

Lastly,this one almost let me extend.One of our windows based tester can not boot up.it is the same tester and same problem encountered last August 29,2007.It was reported to us at almost 4:30pm by a qual maint guy.He doesn't know that the tester's PC have the problem of when reboot you'll have the error stated in my entry for August 29.But I forgot to tell you that before encountering that error you'll first encounter a warning say this Alert! System Fan Not Detected it is as simple as that,it is a hardware problem so it the permanent fix is on the hand of the maintenance people.We are only doing the containment action.

First issue is a request to install Anti virus software in one of our Windows based tester.WHATTT!?what happen to the anti virus we installed?Upon requesting for the network configuration for a new tester, we will also include our team's configuration which includes the installation of anti virus software.So how come this PE is requesting for it?What Happen to the anti virus we installed?Anyways,what I did is have a screen capture of it proving that it already has a anti virus software,I scan the system and even include it in the screen capture.He wanted us to install Anti Virus because according to him the tester is infected by worms and trojan viruses.What's the result of the scan?No virus!I also send him the screen capture of this one.I found out,based on the back files in the anti virus that there was a previous "invasion" of virus in the system and the source is a thumb drive.

Remeber the new tester I configured last night,they said that it still have some error.My group mate told me to run the following command route add {ip add} {ip add2} and it did work.But after a while they said that they still encounter errors.My group mate take charge on ti.

Minor request also came in,changing of permission of their files in the server as simple as chmod 770 [filename] (but be sure that you are in the right path/directory)

Last request was One of the PE can not log in in a HP-UNIX tester using his customer's account,what I did?Edit the passwd file (/etc/passwd) using vi editor and include the customer's login information.Copied from other tester (same platform) using the same customer.

This another long day for me at work...=( maybe you already know what i am talking right?hehehe

In the morning we receive a report regarding the W95.CIH virus that infect one of our tester's PC and it is the same PC that was infected.What my group mate and I did is uninstall one of the anti virus software,'cos it has 3 anti virus.The one we installed is symantec which always pops up a notification that caused the system hang up.

After the virus issue,I process gatepass and look for an available conference room for a "short training" titled Disaster Recovery Essentials.This is conducted by one FSE of our verdor together with *sorry I don't know what's his position*hehehe.We had this short training in our computer room to have a hands on activity on the said topic.

Lastly,need to configure a new tester for one of our "dedicated" customer.One of my groupmate started the configuration but wasn't able to finish it because of the network connection problem.So I have no choice but to extend.It was almost 7:30pm when the "network guys" restored (?) the connection and luckily I did finished the activity before 7:30pm and then I go home...I need to rest!!!lolz

In the the morning we have a really fine day,no issues in the line.What I did is research about the difference between the visibility and DSL connection.According to our boss this is for our "off-hour support"????

In the afternoon,one of our Windows based PC hanged up.This is because of the W95.CIH virus.According to the internet the said virus does not infect Windows NT,2000 and XP and that's a big question to us because the system is running in Windows 2000.What we did is scan the tester in safe mode.

I have a very long day today.Why?you'll find out as you go on reading this post.

I've been waiting for the qual guy/s to advise me if we can have the tester or allocation of the tester to fix the MS excel problem yesterday,'coz we already have the CD with us.

I've done a network configuration for one our new tester in the line.We are using DHCP here so don't have hard time in getting or assigning the IP address for the windows based PCs,I join the said system to our domain,install anti-virus software,remote utility softwares etc...

After doing the network configuration,got a report that the printer of one of our customer is having problem...again!This problem is encountered a few weeks ago and still reoccurring.I spend a lot of times figuring out what went wrong again.I extend to work just because of this issue.Finally,my group mate and I decided to seek help from our customer regarding the problem.Since we already seen the tester having a lot of queues,we tried to clear it up but we have errors encountered.
using lprm -> permission denied {we even used the owner's account to clear it}
using lpc -> failed

Maybe now,you already know why I have a long day today.hehehe

One of my group mate has already an issue in the line while she was still on her way to the office.She ask me to check the Network connection of one of our LINUX based Tester.I can not reach the tester through the ping command "request timed out" I also checked the LED display for the LAN Card and it was ok,the LED is blinking.The reason for this problem is that the she is ping-ing the wrong IP address and she change the tester's IP in the hosts table(I think so.hehehee.'Coz I wasn't there the whole time she is debugging the system.)

Next is we had a meeting with our customer's representatives.This is about the misleading of the line problem a few weeks ago.This customer is previously handled by another team.And when my boss got hired he get it from the previous team.That maybe the reason why the production people didn't inform us.I have an A.I. from this meeting,this is to check the inventory of their things in our server room.I had a preliminary report on that,'coz I can not verify other hardwares because I can not get in in the back of our racks.

A minor request also got in today.Just a temporary root password all testers running in the same platform,HP8400.

I also had a line issue regarding a error on a Windows based PC.the error is
STOP: C0000221 unkown hard erro
/systemroot/system32/ntdll.dll
According to the research I had,I need to repair the Windows XP installation and that's what I did.

There is also this FSE or Field Service Engineer who came at 4pm,then we will be out at 5pm.He is late.hehehe.The only thing he needs from me is to have the restored Image (from him) connected to our Network.

Last problem is about an MS Excel error.We need to have to office installer to be able to add the feature that the error needs.Unfortunately,we had a hard time looking for the CD because we moved our things to our storage room and I'm not sure where does our cadet put those CDs.

We don't have work yesterday,because it was declared holiday,to celebrate National Heroes day.

Today,I have almost whole day working on the printer problem of one our customer that have private network.The problem was also encountered few weeks ago.What my group mate did is lend them our spare printer,then just a few days ago we found out that their printer are already okay.Then after a while one of their personnel borrow again our spare printer and now here it is again,having the same problem.another groupmate of mine suggested them to have or increase the number of printers use in their production line.But I think they did not do anything regarding that suggestion.

There are also minor request like asking for a temporary root password,mounting problem,actually this mounting problem is regarding the previous request I had,same tester what they what is the recurrence prevention.What I did is edit the /etc/auto_home include the maounting info based on the pattern I got from the internet.

Anyways, today's activity?Nothing much except for the new customer that we will be having.I'm not sure if I already told you guys about this customer.I already or not,but I think its better that I'll give you some hint on it.The said customer will be having their own server and own data center,it is a very secure room once the white guy named Joel get out on that room no one can enter on that except for my boss and one of my group mate who has the key an access.Yup,we can borrow the key,but we doesn't have the access on the finger scan.They will also be using a private network.SO almost the whole day I was with Joel.The good thing in this activity is that I had a free lunch at the customer's cafeteria,which I never ate in since I was hired in this company .hehehe.I am also with my other group mate.


Other task,or side task,hehehe.is just login request and to run the anti-virus software in the tester that our new customer will be using.Since it has a private network I must go to the tester 'coz I can not do it remotely.According to my group mate's text the PC was infected by strawberry virus and Joel told me that the said virus had infected his thumb drive as well as James (his companion,our new customer) 2 thumb drives.tsk tsk...

Had an request for mounting early this morning.This is the same tester I had yesterday.They told me that when they reboot the system they encountered the error again.I check the system's /etc/vfstab and compare it with other testers,but I don't see any difference between them.I ask my group mate and he told me to check /etc/auto_home and /etc/auto_master and include the mounting in /etc/auto_home.

Next thing is that one of our UNIX tester had a illegal shutdown or improper shutdown.The error encountered is can not locate /etc/path_to_inst.I run the command boot -ar then yes to all or just press enter.lolz.When the system asked to if you want to create /etc/path_to_inst?The answers is yes.

First thing I did for work is to mount a tester to our server.Correct me I'm wrong,But I already gave the command for mount right?

Next is,we had a conference call/meeting with our customer in the US.My boss is still on the road as well as my other team member during the call(exempt employees) so they we're connected through their cellphones.

I did a network troubleshooting with one of the tester.I release IP but no adapter bound error.I add dns server,WIN server etc...My group mate did help me up.When I get back to the line after getting the LAN card driver,I was to update the driver that's why I get the driver,there was my group mate and fixed it.The problem according to him is that the LAN Card is nor running in the registry(?)

We also have a "hot" meeting with a PE and a maint about an error encountered when loading the program (NFS write error 70).

I also fixed a tester,I rejoined it to our domain.


Did escorted again the customer...


Lastly I had to get the disk space of every server of one of our customer.

I'm back from the 3 days vacation,long weekend.I process gatepass of one our the supplier or tech.rep for our new customer's data center.I also escorted the customer,still the same customer.

One of my PE friend had problem in logging in for FTP.So did some research on changing the access etc...I told her to use the other account of the same customer she will use,we said that it isn't ok.But later on,I was right that 2nd account should be the one to use.It was the operator who keeps on telling her that the first account should be use,according to her.

I also install LSI library 5.7 in two UNIX based testers.Here's how I did it:
1.) Put the installer on the local drive.Using FTP
2.) Since the file is in .tar.Z format I should uncompress it first.command: uncompress [filename]
3.) After uncompressing it the file is now in .tar format (use ls command to see),so this should be untar. command: tar xvf [filename]
4.) Remove the .tar file.command: rm [filename.tar]
5.) Make a link poitning to the file. command: ln -s [file] linkpoint

Today,we found out that we were charge 24hrs downtime.huwhaatttt!!!!Yup,This about the mounting problem I got the day before.so we investigate and talked to the maint.The person who put the downtime charged to us said that he will change it after learning it.Hope he will...hehehe

We also have a log in problem in one of our UNIX based tester's PC.The problem is that they should use the CDE environment when Logging in.

I also did a mounting job again.BTW the command for that is mount [directory where you will mount the machine] [mounting point]

Escorted the same customer again.BTW,that customer is so kind and friendly,we had talked about a lot of things asides from the works,such as about the Corregidor Island,etc...

I escort/assisted one of our customer.This is the same customer I had.I also need to look for this power cord that they need.But we doesn't have spare of that kind.Plan B for this is to have an extension cord modify it,use the socket(?) given by my boss.We did it,but we did the cord for 11VAC and our customer will use 220VAC.=( But our customer is kind to do it him self,modify the cord.

I also have a job about mounting.I mount the tester to our NFS server.But the tester has a problem,when the maint reboot it,the tester keeps on reboot.what we din?stop a , sync then fsck -y. Later I found out that the Tester's PC is having problem when reboot while the tester hardware is connected.What my group mate did is to disconnect the hardware to the PC and run good.

That day we also had our Quarterly Communication Meeting.We talked a lot of things in that meeting.What are those?Well,that's a very confidential matter.hehehe

Got more things done that day.I helped our cadet to uninstall COMODO firewall on some of our testers (J750 platforms).It's not that difficult to do.I also helped her out on the mapping problem of one our Windows based testers.What I did is to install/reinstall/update the tester's samba another "extra" request for this tester is to have a drive E:.So I use partition Magic to be able to repartition the HDD of the Tester's PC and have a drive E:

I also have a request regarding a link in one of the UNIX based tester.

Last thing is,it was almost 5pm when they ask for this, one of our programming staff is having problem to run his script/cron in other user.so what we did is edit /etc/var/cron.allow,to include the user.

We moved 7 monitors (I think),a printer and a HP CPU from our customer data center to our storage room.We also moved monitors from the office area to our storage room.

We did check mounting problem one of our tester,I think this is an old one.

Our director gave us another visit in our server room and told us to be at Baguio Conference room at 11:30am*think* Why do we need to go there?Knowing that that conference room is used by our executives *think again* Can this be our team's judgment time?Can this be a sign that we will lose our job?*can stop thinking.lolz*Before 11:30am my boss asked me to process gatepass for our visitors.Visitors?Who are they?Well,they are our vendor.I already met one of our visitor before,I think I was almost 2 years ago,When I was still a Cadet Engineer.Enough of that and let's go to the meeting.We had free pizzas,chicken wings and drinks at that meeting(That's one good thing.hehehe)*think again* it this a sign that we needed to eat first and pamper our selves with all those foods before executing.lolz.BTW,the attendees of the said meeting were our plant General Manager,our director and a couple of department managers,our vendor and our team.To make this thing short,the meeting was about that happen to our server (which was explain by our vendor's Malaysian FSE,who resolve the problem) and about the upgrade.Finally!Our 8 years old servers are gonna be replace.yehey!

Besides that meeting there are also minor request like asking for the IP address of a tester,log in to the server and run the following command more /etc/hosts grep [platform] . Another request is the log in information for one of our customer.

That day I continue to set default printer of some testers to the correct printer.All of the testers are running on UNIX Operating System.

Another task I had that day is the connection of one tester to another network printer.The tester is a very controversial PC.hehehe.The request is to connect it to the network printer.But when I check the PC's configuration,some are not in our standard*tsk tsk* The said tester doesn't also have our group's configuration,anti-virus software,utilities etc...

Seems like I've working a lot on printer problems...hehehe

That day I was back to normal time and that's good.Bad thing is that I was late.=(

Anyway,back to work.hehehe,a PE ask me for an installer of their test application program and a driver (Matrox). We did have copy of the said application program while we needed to download the driver from the internet.And luckily,we had it.

Next task is to have a conference meeting with one of our customer from the US.We talked about the defective power vault,network clogging in their line and their production printers.One of AI or Action Item is to follow-up what's the status of the two spare printers that are both defective,another AI is to check the print spools of the testers.Some testers' default printer is wrong so what I did is to set the default printer to the correct printer.The wrong printer is one of the reason of network clogging in their line.Last AI for me is to send the status of the defective power vault.

Just got home at almost 9 in the morning.My boss text me to be ready or wait for his text if I needed to be back at work on evening of that day.My original plan s to have that day as a vacation leave and be back to normal time the day after.But...Unfortunately I was requested to be there.

What I did is process gatepass for the new FSE to fix our machine.

And the mounting/mapping to our NAS and copying their test programs to local.

Badly,our tape back-up drive was broken.This is due to trying to restore it.our vendor had a service unit for this but according to the FSE the loaner might also be defective and he requested for another internal drive.Unfortunately,the internal drive will arrive late.So we will just stare the whole night.lolz.But thank God it arrive earlier.

I did go back home at 6:00am of Tuesday.

Anyways,going back to the real idea of this blog,about my work,gonna share you my learnings and experience in work.

Yup its Sunday!And we are required to go to work this day because of the server problem we encountered last July 27, 2007.

What our purpose of being in the plant?Well,we are needed to support the product.Our server problem affects the whole production and as a containment action to reduce the amount of downtime,instead of using our NSF server we used our NAS to run the production.Since their data are already migrated to our file storage.

We copy test programs from our NAS to local drive of the testers.To be able to do that we also need to mount (for UNIX based) or map (for Windows based) to the NAS to be able get the files we need.

Basically that's my purpose of being in the plant from 2:00pm of Sunday (July 29,2007) up to 6:00am of the following day (Monday,July 30,2007)

Another purpose is to accompany and observe the FSEs of our vendor in fixing our server.

Today is so different from other days.not only because my angel celebrate her 5th month But today we encounter trouble that affects the almost the whole plant.

In the morning it was just an ordinary day,No big issues.I assists a PE about his directory problem. It was almost 1pm when we the tragic begins.I lost my connection in our server then I tried to reconnect but I failed.After some troubleshooting,I found out that the /dev/zero is missing then then server can not accept command such as ls etc..I've done some research while our boss is coordinating the problem with our vendor,we need to reboot the system.Boot from CD-rom and so on But when our boss do it,seems like there is a deeper problem,hardware was found out.

While our boss and other team mates are doing/checking the server I got one request from a PE.That is to install Internet Explorer 5 or higher.The available version we have is IE6 which requires Service Pack 6. So I did install both.

We continue to rearrange our tape back ups to our storage room and we finished it.

On my way to the storage room,one engineer approach me regarding an error in the tester he handle.The test application program is looking for MS Dev(Developer Studio) 4.2 and accourding to him,he might accidentally overwrite the existing.I ask him how and why?He told me that he install C++ in the system,I asked him where did he get the installer?Because the system does have C++ ever since.If he wants to put C++ he needs to have a license installer for that PC.This shows a violation of software anti-piracy law.I did not anything on this case,'coz it was a illegal practice.And we are in favor of the this software anti-piracy law.

We also clean our computer room,put the spare monitors at our storage room and rearrange things.

Today our company have a "very special visitor"...a Korean ceo(?)

Today I handled Printer problem in one of our "resident" customer.Printer is constantly printing unwanted printouts,summaries of the tested lots tested a few days back.I consulted one of our former groupmate's documentation regarding the printers and it works.I turn off the printer and remove the power plug,this is to reset the memory of the printer.I log ged in to the server as root and din some cleaning of the queues and after 5mins I turn on the printer again.And it was successful.

Next is we move some of our things to our storage room,drawer,tape back ups and some boxes.I also helped our cadet to arrange the tape to the drawer.We even rearrange the drawers and some other things in our storage room.

It was almost 3pm when I receive a call about a tester problem,disk space is full,it is the same tester I handled last Monday.My opinion about this is that the partition of /root might be too small for their data,because based on my observation there are some summaries saved in this partition that might caused the system's/partition's disk full.When I check the tester,an operator came to me and told me that a lot of tester's can not print.I asked her how many and what testers,and it was almost 10 testers that can not print.But when they tried it,it was ok,printing!But some are not so we need to troubleshoot it,good thing one of my senior groupmate is also in the line.She helped me out it.We changed the default printer of some testers and the last tester I handled has a different case.The file that their script is looking is gone,what my senior did was link the directory where we found the file.But still can not print I just browse the lpc of the tester.and I enable the printer,because error we encountered says unknown printer.And it was fixed.

Today I only handled the error that a PE encountered in enrolling in our ftp.I also got some help on a CIM staff,they are the group who manages the application (file/data transfer scripts and the web based enrollment system)The PE need to try ftp manually,as per advise of the CIM staff.The PE still encountered error in doing that,what I did is to ftp the tester/system using its IP address and it was successful.

I'm re-writing my "diary of work"hehehe.It is a Steno notebook where I put things i've done besides this blogging.It is more formal and more accurate.ahihihi

I also ask for an update from our vendor/tech.rep.Remember the "pasaway" visitors last Thursday?hehehe.Isn't that a hard job?lolz

I was on EL last Friday,that's why there's no entry for that day.EL means Emergency Leave,it is a valid reason for EL that I bring or accompany my husband to his doctor,even my parents and most esp my baby.The 2 following days,Saturday and Sunday,are our rest day,we don't have work for that day.=D

So here's my activity for the day.First is one of our UNIX based Tester got disk full problem.What I did is to check it's partition using the command df -a (for lower SUNOS)> I found out that the root is 99% and it is our responsible to clean it or decrease it.Next command is du -sk it will tell you how much space a file occupies.I get the top 2 files/directory,The top2 contains data/test results done since May 23 and I think it needs to be remove from the system to free up some space.I coordinate it with a Supervisor,to tell the PEs to execute the cleansing 'coz I know and I believe that they know what file needs to be remove that me.

I also requested a TIN card in our HR benefit/compensation department.She gave me instruction,call the BIR contact center etc... By doing that I learned that my BIR record is not updated,I am still single based on their record.For almost a year I thought that it was already updated,that it was also processed by them when I gave them my forms and requirement for change status!damn!Wait,Am I at the right blog?I think this should be in my other blog (www.jhanok.blogspot.com)hehehe

I also created/gave a contractual employee an access at our computer room,'coz their switches are located at our room and they need to go inside this night or if ever there are issues or trouble after our office hours they can still can go inside.

Early in the morning I had a HDD given to our group for image restoration,it only took a while,I guess less than an hour.

After lunch one of my group mate send a PM to me,telling me that a vendor/tech support reps are in the lobby,worst in the other plant's lobby,need to walk for I think 500 meters to be there,and I still need to process their gate pass,ready their attire so that if ever they will be going to our data center.DAMN!I was so bad trip!!!I instructed their other representatives who was also in our plant a few days before that they need to email us or inform us first before going here and they should be going to our plant's lobby not the other plant's lobby!Anyway,They need to check our Dell PV 128T Storage Tape.They need to get the storage's report through the browser.

One Windows based tester had a mapping problem,they can't map the customer's home directory in our Network File Server(NFS).I've check the network connection and it is okay.I went to the PC and check what the error is and it says that "Share name not found".The root cause the the problem is that their home directory is missing in our NFS,what our team did is to restore the missing directory.


Another Windows based tester can not map their home directory in our NFS.This time their directory is not missing.I've checked the tester's PC 's connection to our server even to my office PC and there seems to be a problem with it's network connection.But what confused me is that I can "ping" the PC using its hostname.I've checked the LAN connection set up of the PC and it seems to be okay.We are using Dynamic IP Address here and it is set to obtain IP address automatically.I've check the system's event viewer and I found out that the problem is that there is a conflict IP address.I release and renew IP address but no change in IP address.I coordinated it with our network engineers and he saw the PC using the same IP address.He use the following command nbtstat -a [ip address] He suggested to reboot the PC and did.Release and renew again,an error prompt saying that "DHCP Server not available" So I've check the settings again and found out that the PC is using the wrong Default Gateway so I input the right IP of the Default gateway we are using.And for the last time I release and renew IP address again.It was successful .I mapped drive to their directory and it was successful too.

We also have request that a customer need a 20Gb disk space in a tester's PC so we repartition the HDD using partition magic,we did it through remoting. This utility need a reboot for the changes to take effect when we are monitoring the the tester's network connection we were triggered when the connection is still request timed out.So what I did is go to the line check the PC,it hanged up.So I restart the PC and the repartitioning is successful. Also the said customer needs to have Visual Studio SP6 So we did it by remote.

We also had a short meeting before lunch at our Storage room to fill out the downtime report that to be submitted to our director.I also inquire/ check the rack that will be given to us.With the help of my cadet batch mate.Last in my list is the DELL PV T128 problem,I follow the instruction given to us,Use the browser and put the IP address,But Page can not be displayed.

So that's all for this day.But hey,tomorrow is another of work.hehehe.ciao
